What is Nuru Project?
Nuru Project’s mission is to leverage photography as an agent for social change in the developing world.
We’re dedicated to improving the lives of those at the base of the pyramid by providing photographers with a vehicle to give back to their subjects while using their images to confront and educate viewers.
How do we Work?
Nuru hosts photography auctions, each centered around a particular issue affecting the developing world. Photographs are donated by the artist, which enables us to distribute 100% of the auction proceeds to a charity working within that show’s theme. Each show also features a strong educational component via expert speakers, multimedia display, etc.
Why do we exist?
We believe that Nuru can have a positive effect on:
- Social issues related to poverty in the developing world
- A lack of dramatic coverage of these issues, and the resulting failure of the public to take action
- Socially conscious photographer’s inability to give back to the subject of their work
